Chinese Maple, Chinese Esdoring, Trident Maple - Acer Buergerianum
The Chinese maple is a trouble-free species that is tolerant of a wide range of site conditions. It is very adaptable to urban environments and tolerates air pollution, making it a wonderful street tree. It can be trimmed to keep it smaller and is good in confined spaces; making it an excellent choice for smaller gardens; providing welcome shade in summer and allowing the sunlight through in winter. Several interesting cultivars have been developed, making the Chinese maple a popular choice for the art of bonsai, and suitable for many style and sizes; responding well to techniques that create leaf reduction and ramification.
Difference between Japanese and Chinese Maples
Japanese and Chinese maples are both attractive deciduous trees known for their vibrant foliage, but they have distinct characteristics. Japanese maples (Acer palmatum) are celebrated for their diverse cultivars, offering a wide range of leaf shapes, sizes, and colors, including reds, purples, and greens. Chinese maples (Acer buergerianum) are noted for their medium-sized, green leaves that turn purple-red in the spring and blue-green in the summer.
Germination Tip:
After soaking the seed overnight and the seed has not softened or swelled, you will need to scarify the seed coat. Scarifying is the process of weakening the seed coat, so that water and oxygen can enter the seed, in turn, kick starting germination. Seeds will remain dormant if not exposed to these elements
Scarifying can be achieved by gently rubbing the seed coat with sandpaper, you do not need to rub off the entire coating, just enough for water to enter.
NB: Only scarify the seed coat, do not damage the internal parts of the seed.
Once Scarifying has been done. submerge the seed again as per instructions
