Heirloom Habanero Pepper Seeds Planting Instructions
Maximize your peppers' potential with these simple cultivation steps:
- Peppers crave full sun exposure for optimal growth.
- Initiate seeding indoors in warm soil (65°F to 70°F).
- Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in flats, peat pots, or cell packs.
- Begin this process 8 to 10 weeks before planned outdoor transplantation.
- Allow your seedlings to grow indoors in a warm, sunny location for as long as possible.
- Transplant outdoors only when ready; there's no need to rush.
- Aim for 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost to transplant them outdoors.
- Plant them in a sunny location outdoors:
- Bury them 2 inches deep.
- Space individual plants 12 to 24 inches apart.
- For conventional farming, arrange rows 24 to 36 inches apart.
- For raised beds, space plants about 14 to 16 inches apart.
Heirloom Habanero Pepper Seeds Harvesting Instructions
Reap the spicy rewards of your hot habanero peppers with these harvest and storage tips:
- Expect the peppers to be ready for picking about 120 days after planting.
- Look for signs of readiness: peppers should be firm, shiny, and have a crisp texture.
- Use garden shears to clip the fruit from the plant to avoid damage.
- For storage, maintain the following conditions, if possible:
- A temperature around 50°F.
- At least 90% humidity.
- Avoid storing your peppers near other fruits and vegetables. They're sensitive to ethylene gas, which accelerates their aging process.
Did You Know This About Habanero Peppers?
